Marty Young calls for better coordination after Minneapolis events
South Chester Today By M.T. Alexander
Marty Young, a Republican candidate for the U.S. Congress in Pennsylvania’s 6th District, has issued a statement addressing recent events in Minneapolis. The incidents involved federal immigration enforcement operations that escalated into violence, resulting in the deaths of Renée Good and Alex Pretti. Young criticized the lack of coordination and leadership at various government levels.
“The heartbreaking incidents in Minneapolis—where federal immigration enforcement operations spiraled into violence and loss of life—highlight a profound failure not rooted in ideology, but in a clear breakdown of coordination and leadership at the federal, state, and local levels,” Young said. He pointed out that jurisdictions refusing to honor federal detainers force enforcement actions into public areas, increasing risks for everyone involved.
Young also highlighted challenges faced by federal agents deployed without adequate planning or support. “Public safety cannot be improvised,” he emphasized, calling for deescalation from all parties to reassess protocols.
Drawing on his military experience, Young stressed the importance of clear command structures and proper personnel deployment. He noted that law enforcement officers need genuine support and communities deserve safety and constitutional rights protection.
Young criticized Congress for exploiting crises for political gain instead of focusing on solutions. He opposed threats of a government shutdown over these issues, arguing it would harm Americans without providing real solutions.
He also critiqued Representative Chrissy Houlahan’s rapid response to the situation as lacking understanding of the facts. “Leadership in these moments should be measured and solution-oriented,” he said.
As a congressional candidate, Young aims to restore competence and accountability in Washington by supporting law enforcement properly and prioritizing public safety over politics.
